Overview
GY-MAX4466 Electret Microphone Amplifier Breakout Sensor
Add high-quality analog audio input to your electronics projects with the GY-MAX4466 Electret Microphone Amplifier Breakout Sensor. This compact module combines an electret microphone with the MAX4466 microphone preamplifier, providing an amplified analog audio signal that can be processed by a microcontroller's ADC.
An onboard trimmer potentiometer allows the amplifier gain to be adjusted from approximately 25× to 125×, making it possible to tune the module for different sound levels and applications.
The module operates from a low-voltage supply and is compatible with common development platforms such as Arduino and ESP32. Its compact breakout-board design requires only VCC, GND, and OUT connections for basic operation.
It is an excellent choice for sound detection, audio sampling, voice-related projects, noise monitoring, audio visualization, and interactive electronics.

Product Technical Information
Technical Details
MAX4466 Low-Noise Microphone Amplifier
The GY-MAX4466 uses the MAX4466, a microphone preamplifier designed for low-voltage, low-power audio applications. The MAX4466 operates from 2.4V to 5.5V and features a rail-to-rail output, making it suitable for many microcontroller-based audio projects.
Adjustable Audio Gain
A trimmer potentiometer on the module allows the amplifier gain to be adjusted over approximately 25× to 125×. This lets users tune the output signal according to the sound level and input requirements of the connected circuit.
Analog Audio Output
The module provides an analog audio output that can be connected to an ADC input or other compatible audio-processing circuitry. The output is DC-biased around approximately VCC/2, allowing the audio waveform to be represented within the input range of a typical single-supply microcontroller ADC.
Wide Audio Frequency Response
The module is commonly specified for approximately 20Hz–20kHz, covering a broad portion of the human-audible frequency range. This makes it useful for general-purpose sound and audio sensing applications.
Easy Three-Pin Connection
Basic operation requires only three connections:
- VCC — power supply
- GND — ground
- OUT — amplified analog audio signal
This simple interface makes the module convenient for prototyping with development boards.
Compatible with Popular Development Boards
The GY-MAX4466 can be incorporated into projects using:
- Arduino
- ESP32
- ESP8266
- Raspberry Pi with suitable ADC/interface hardware
- STM32
- Other microcontroller platforms with compatible analog inputs
Applications
The module can be used for:
- Sound detection
- Audio sensing
- Noise-level experiments
- Audio sampling
- Sound-reactive LEDs
- Audio visualization
- Voice-related electronics projects
- Frequency analysis
- FFT-based projects
- Interactive electronics
- Educational electronics
- DIY IoT projects
Note: The module produces an analog audio waveform rather than a simple digital HIGH/LOW sound-detection signal. The gain should be adjusted appropriately to avoid clipping the connected ADC or audio input. The exact module implementation can vary, so verify the supplied board's pinout and electrical specifications before installation.
