Product Technical Information
Technical Details
The IRFZ44N is an N-channel enhancement-mode power MOSFET intended for high-current switching and power-control applications. It is designed to provide low conduction losses and fast switching performance in circuits where efficient control of DC power is required.
Its 55V drain-to-source rating makes it suitable for many low-voltage power applications, while the ±20V gate-to-source voltage rating provides a useful operating margin for the MOSFET gate when appropriate gate-drive circuitry is used.

How It Works / Use Guide
The IRFZ44N controls current flowing between its Drain (D) and Source (S) terminals according to the voltage applied between the Gate (G) and Source.
- Identify the Gate, Drain, and Source pins before installation.
- Connect the load in the appropriate position in the switching circuit.
- Apply the required gate-drive voltage between Gate and Source.
- A suitable gate voltage turns the MOSFET on, allowing current to flow through the Drain-Source path.
- Removing or reducing the appropriate gate-drive signal turns the MOSFET off.
- For PWM applications, use a suitable gate-driver or microcontroller interface and ensure the MOSFET is adequately driven.
- Use a heatsink when power dissipation causes the device temperature to approach its allowable limit.
Important: The IRFZ44N is often used with microcontrollers, but its low on-resistance specifications are generally associated with a specified gate-drive voltage. A 5V logic signal should not automatically be assumed to provide the same low-loss performance as a properly specified higher gate-drive voltage.
Important Notes
- Do not exceed the ±20V Gate-to-Source voltage rating.
- Do not exceed the 55V Drain-to-Source voltage rating.
- The 175°C value is a maximum junction-temperature rating, not a recommended continuous operating temperature.
- Use a suitable heatsink when required by the application's current, voltage, switching frequency, and thermal conditions.
- Provide appropriate gate protection and a proper gate-drive circuit for reliable switching.
- When switching inductive loads such as motors, solenoids, or relays, use appropriate protection circuitry to control voltage spikes.
- Always verify the pin configuration and electrical specifications of the actual component before installation.
