Overview
The LM35 Temperature Sensor IC is a precision analog temperature sensor designed to provide an output voltage proportional to temperature in degrees Celsius. Its simple linear output makes it easy to interface with Arduino boards, microcontrollers, ADCs, and other analog measurement circuits without requiring complex conversion tables.
With a typical scale factor of 10mV per °C, the LM35 produces approximately 250mV at 25°C. The sensor operates from a wide 4V to 30V DC supply range and uses a compact TO-92 through-hole package, making it convenient for breadboards, PCBs, educational projects, and embedded monitoring systems.
The LM35 is suitable for applications including environmental monitoring, temperature-controlled fans, over-temperature detection, battery and power-supply thermal monitoring, and electronics laboratory projects.

Using LM35 with an ADC
The LM35's analog output can be connected directly to a suitable microcontroller ADC input. For an Arduino Uno using its default 5V analog reference, the ADC resolution limits the practical measurement resolution. Using an appropriate lower analog reference can provide finer ADC resolution when the measured temperature range permits it.
For long sensor wires, proper grounding, filtering, and a 0.1µF bypass capacitor near the sensor supply pins can help reduce noise and improve measurement stability.
