Technical Details
Compact FM Stereo Receiver
The RDA5807M RRD-102 V2.0 is a miniature FM stereo receiver module based on the highly integrated RDA5807M FM tuner IC. It requires very few external components and is designed for compact embedded applications.
Wide FM Frequency Coverage
The module supports a broad tuning range covering common FM broadcast bands around the world. The RDA5807M documentation specifies 50MHz to 115MHz, while the RRD-102 V2.0 module is commonly used across the 76–108MHz FM broadcast range.
I²C Microcontroller Control
The module is controlled through a 2-wire I²C serial interface. This allows a connected microcontroller to control radio parameters through software instead of requiring mechanical tuning components.
It is suitable for development platforms such as:
- Arduino
- ESP32
- STM32
- Raspberry Pi with suitable I²C support
- Other compatible microcontrollers
Stereo Audio Output
The RDA5807M provides left and right analog audio outputs. The module is designed to support a 32Ω load, allowing compatible headphones to be connected directly or the audio signal to be routed to an external amplifier.
Automatic Station Search
The integrated tuner supports automatic station searching, making it easier to scan available FM stations. It also supports programmable channel spacing, allowing the receiver to be configured for different FM broadcasting standards.
RDS/RBDS Support
The RDA5807M supports RDS/RBDS, allowing compatible broadcasts to provide additional information such as station identification and radio text.
Audio and Reception Features
The module integrates several digital processing functions, including:
- Digital automatic gain control
- Noise cancellation
- Soft mute
- Stereo/mono switching
- Bass boost
- Volume control
- RSSI signal-strength monitoring
- SNR monitoring
- Programmable de-emphasis
These features help provide flexible control over reception and audio behavior.
Ultra-Compact Design
With a footprint of approximately 11 × 11.2mm, the RRD-102 V2.0 is suitable for projects where PCB space is limited.
Applications
The module can be used for:
- DIY FM radio receivers
- Arduino FM radio projects
- ESP32 radio projects
- Portable radio devices
- Wireless audio systems
- Embedded FM receivers
- Educational electronics
- Audio experimentation
- Custom multimedia devices
- FM stereo headphone projects
- Compact IoT and embedded devices
Note: The module requires an appropriate antenna for reliable FM reception. An external audio amplifier may be required when driving speakers, as the module is primarily intended for line-level audio output or suitable headphone loads. Verify the module's actual pinout and supply requirements before connecting it to a development board.
