Product Technical Information
Technical Details
The Teensy-LC Without Pins is a compact 32-bit microcontroller development board designed for affordable embedded systems, electronics prototyping, and custom hardware projects. It uses an NXP MKL26Z64 microcontroller with an ARM Cortex-M0+ processor running at 48MHz. With multiple communication interfaces, analog inputs, PWM outputs, and USB device functionality, it provides a flexible platform for a wide range of microcontroller applications.
The board can be programmed using the Arduino IDE with the Teensy boards software. Its serial, SPI, and I²C interfaces allow it to communicate with compatible sensors, displays, peripheral ICs, and other microcontrollers. The no-pin version is especially useful for projects that require custom wiring, direct soldering, or integration into a dedicated PCB.
Features
32-bit ARM processor: Uses a 48MHz Cortex-M0+ processor for embedded control and data processing.
Compact development board: Suitable for space-constrained electronics and custom PCB designs.
27 digital I/O pins: Supports digital input and output for compatible electronic components.
Analog input and output: Provides 13 analog inputs and a true 12-bit digital-to-analog output.
PWM functionality: Includes 10 PWM outputs for compatible LED dimming and control applications.
Multiple communication interfaces: Offers three hardware serial ports, one SPI interface, and two I²C interfaces.
USB device support: Can be programmed over USB and configured for supported USB device functions, including serial, MIDI, keyboard, mouse, and joystick.
Arduino software compatibility: Supports the Arduino IDE through PJRC's Teensy software tools.
Buffered LED output: Includes a dedicated 5V-buffered signal for compatible WS2812/NeoPixel LED projects.
Without pre-soldered pins: Allows flexible installation in custom circuit boards or soldered wiring assemblies.
Applications
Arduino-compatible electronics projects
Sensor monitoring and data acquisition
DIY automation and control systems
USB MIDI controllers and custom USB devices
LED strips and NeoPixel lighting projects
Communication with compatible I²C and SPI modules
Robotics and educational prototyping
Custom PCB integration and embedded product development
How to Use
Connect the board: Use a compatible Micro-USB data cable to connect the Teensy-LC to your computer.
Install the programming software: Install the Arduino IDE and the Teensy boards software according to PJRC's instructions.
Select the board: Choose Teensy LC in the development environment.
Create your program: Write or load a sketch compatible with the board's processor and peripherals.
Upload the code: Use the Teensy Loader workflow to program the board.
Install the required connections: Since this version has no pre-soldered header pins, solder the necessary wires or headers before connecting external components.
Test your circuit: Verify power, wiring, signal levels, and peripheral operation before using the board in a completed project.
Important Notes
No pre-soldered pins: This product version is supplied without installed header pins. Soldering may be required for your application.
3.3V logic: Digital I/O pins are not 5V tolerant. Applying more than 3.3V to a digital signal pin can damage the board.
Power connections: Follow PJRC's power-supply instructions. Avoid applying external power to VIN while USB power is connected unless the board's power path has been correctly isolated.
USB cable: A Micro-USB data cable may be required and may not be included.
Current limits: Do not power motors, relays, or other high-current loads directly from the I/O pins. Use suitable driver circuits.
Legacy product: PJRC no longer recommends Teensy-LC for new designs and recommends considering Teensy 4.0 or Teensy 4.1 for new projects. Check software and component availability before selecting it for a new design.
