UA741CN Operational Amplifier IC DIP-8 – Single General-Purpose Op-Amp
VAT inclusive; Computed calculations added locally.
Overview
The UA741CN is a classic general-purpose monolithic operational amplifier designed for a wide range of analog circuit applications. It features a single amplification channel in a convenient 8-pin plastic dual in-line package, making it suitable for breadboard prototyping, IC sockets, and through-hole PCB assembly.
With a typical 1 MHz gain-bandwidth product and approximately 0.5 V/µs slew rate, the UA741CN is well suited to low-frequency analog signal processing, basic sensor amplification, audio preamplification, filtering, and waveform-generation circuits.
The IC supports dual-rail supply operation from approximately ±5V to ±18V, providing useful voltage headroom for conventional analog designs. Its integrated input and output overload protection also makes it a practical choice for general-purpose experimentation and learning.
The traditional DIP-8 format makes the UA741CN easy to handle and integrate into educational trainer boards, DIY electronics projects, and analog circuit prototypes.

Product Technical Information
Technical Details
The UA741CN Operational Amplifier IC is a single-channel, general-purpose bipolar op-amp designed for conventional analog electronics applications. It is widely used for voltage amplification, signal conditioning, active filtering, mathematical analog circuits, and waveform generation.
Its standard PDIP-8 package provides straightforward installation on breadboards and through-hole PCBs. The single-op-amp configuration is useful when designing simple amplification stages without requiring a multi-channel op-amp.
The UA741CN is particularly suitable for educational projects and basic analog experiments where understanding traditional operational amplifier circuits is important. It can be configured as an inverting or non-inverting amplifier, integrator, differentiator, active filter, comparator-style circuit, or oscillator depending on the external components and circuit topology.

How to Use
- Identify Pin 1 using the notch or marking on the IC package and verify the pinout.
- Connect the appropriate positive and negative supply rails according to the circuit design.
- Connect the input signal to the selected inverting or non-inverting input.
- Use external resistors and capacitors to establish the required gain and feedback configuration.
- Connect the output to the following circuit stage or an appropriate load.
- Add suitable supply decoupling capacitors close to the IC's supply pins.
- Test the circuit using voltage levels within the UA741's operating limitations.
Important Notes
- The UA741 is a traditional op-amp, not a modern rail-to-rail amplifier.
- It generally performs best with adequate supply voltage headroom and is not an ideal choice for low-voltage single-supply applications such as direct 5V Arduino circuits.
- Do not assume the output can swing all the way to either supply rail.
- Avoid continuously shorting the output to the supply rails or ground.
- Use approximately 0.1µF supply decoupling capacitors close to the power pins where appropriate.
- Verify the exact pinout and supply polarity before powering the IC.
- Do not exceed the recommended supply and input voltage limits.
- Product images are for illustration purposes only and may differ from the actual product.
- Package dimensions may vary slightly between production batches.
- No warranty or guarantee is provided with this product.
