Overview

The CKCS BS01 Mini DC-DC Boost Converter provides a convenient way to increase a low DC voltage to a higher fixed output voltage. It is particularly useful with single-cell Li-ion/Li-Po batteries, where a nominal 3.7V battery may need to be boosted to 5V, 8V, 9V, or 12V for another circuit.

Unlike adjustable boost modules that use a potentiometer, the BS01 uses two solder pads marked A and B to select the required output voltage. The factory/default configuration is generally 12V, while changing the A/B solder connections allows the module to be configured for 5V, 8V, or 9V output.

The module has different output-current capabilities depending on both input and output voltage. With a 3.7V input, the supplied specifications list up to 1A at 5V, 0.5A at 8V, 0.45A at 9V, and 0.3A at 12V. With a 5V input, the listed capability is up to 1A at 5V, 0.7A at 8V, 0.7A at 9V, and 0.5A at 12V. These values are application-dependent and should not be treated as a universal continuous rating under every thermal condition.

The compact PCB design makes the BS01 suitable for portable electronics, battery-powered equipment, mini UPS systems, router/ONU backup projects, embedded systems, and other applications where space is limited. The onboard LED provides a convenient power indication and can be disabled on supported board versions to reduce no-load consumption.

Product Technical Information

Technical Details

The CKCS BS01 Mini DC-DC Boost Step-Up Converter is a small PCB-based voltage booster designed for converting low-voltage DC sources into higher fixed voltage rails.

It accepts approximately 2.5V to 5V DC input and provides four selectable output levels: 5V, 8V, 9V, and 12V. The selected output must be higher than the input voltage because this module is a boost converter.

Output Configuration

The output voltage is selected using the two solder pads marked A and B on the PCB:

A PadB PadOutput
OpenOpen5V
OpenConnected8V
ConnectedOpen9V
ConnectedConnected12V

The module is normally supplied in the 12V configuration. To change the output, use a soldering iron to connect or disconnect the appropriate A/B solder pads.

Features

  • CKCS BS01 mini boost converter
  • Converts low DC voltage to a higher voltage
  • 2.5–5V DC input range
  • Selectable 5V, 8V, 9V, and 12V outputs
  • 12V default configuration
  • A/B solder-pad output selection
  • Suitable for 3.7V Li-ion/Li-Po battery projects
  • Onboard power indicator LED
  • Compact PCB design
  • Low no-load consumption when the indicator is disabled
  • Useful for portable and battery-powered electronics
  • Suitable for mini UPS and backup-power projects

Applications

  • 3.7V Li-ion battery to 5V conversion
  • 3.7V battery to 8V/9V/12V conversion
  • Mini UPS projects
  • Wi-Fi router/ONU backup projects
  • Portable electronics
  • IoT devices
  • Arduino and microcontroller projects
  • Robotics
  • Sensor power supplies
  • DIY power-management circuits
  • Battery-powered embedded systems

How to Use

  1. Identify the IN+ / IN- and OUT+ / OUT- connections on the module.
  2. Connect a suitable DC source between the input positive and negative terminals.
  3. Ensure the input voltage is lower than the desired output voltage.
  4. Before connecting your load, check the A/B solder-pad configuration.
  5. Select 5V, 8V, 9V, or 12V using the appropriate A/B solder-pad combination.
  6. Power the module and measure the output voltage with a multimeter.
  7. Confirm the output voltage before connecting sensitive electronics.
  8. Connect the load while staying within the appropriate output-current capability.

Important Notes

  • This is a boost converter only. It cannot reduce a higher input voltage to a lower output voltage.
  • The input voltage must be lower than the selected output voltage.
  • Do not connect a voltage source higher than the module's specified input range.
  • The output voltage is selected by solder pads, not by a continuously adjustable potentiometer.
  • Always measure the output voltage before connecting sensitive equipment.
  • Output current depends strongly on the input voltage and selected output voltage.
  • The listed current figures are maximum/application figures and should not automatically be treated as guaranteed continuous output under all conditions.
  • Higher voltage conversion generally reduces the available output current.
  • Do not exceed the recommended load current; excessive loading can cause voltage drop, overheating, or module damage.
  • Observe correct input and output polarity. Reverse polarity can damage the module.
  • The onboard LED consumes additional current. On supported versions, disabling the LED can reduce no-load consumption.
  • Allow adequate ventilation when operating near the module's current limits.
  • This module does not include battery charging, battery balancing, or battery protection circuitry.
  • When using a Li-ion/Li-Po cell, use a properly protected and appropriately charged battery system.
  • Product dimensions may vary slightly between production batches.
