Overview

The DFRobot SIM7600G-H CAT4 4G LTE Shield is a versatile cellular expansion board designed for Arduino and other standard Arduino-pinout controllers. It supports LTE-TDD, LTE-FDD, WCDMA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, providing a broad range of cellular connectivity options for embedded and IoT applications. The SIM7600G-H platform supports LTE CAT4 communication with theoretical speeds of up to 150Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink.

Built-in GNSS positioning supports GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou, allowing the shield to combine mobile connectivity with location tracking. This makes it particularly useful for fleet monitoring, asset tracking, mobile telemetry, outdoor data collection, and location-aware IoT systems.

The shield is controlled through serial AT commands and supports functions including SMS, telephone calls, TCP/IP communication, MQTT, GPS positioning, and other network services. DFRobot also provides Arduino examples for SMS, calling, TCP communication, and GPS operation.

Product Technical Information

Technical Details

The DFRobot SIM7600G-H CAT4 4G LTE Shield for Arduino is designed for projects that need cellular internet connectivity, messaging, voice communication, and satellite positioning. Its standard Arduino shield layout makes it convenient to combine with compatible Arduino development boards. DFRobot specifically lists compatibility with Arduino UNO, Leonardo, Mega, and other main controllers.

The SIM7600G-H supports a wide collection of LTE, WCDMA, and GSM bands. This broad band support makes the shield suitable for many regional cellular networks, although actual service availability always depends on the local operator and SIM card.

For positioning applications, the integrated GNSS system supports GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou. A suitable GNSS antenna and an unobstructed outdoor environment can improve positioning performance. DFRobot's GPS example uses AT commands to enable GPS and retrieve positioning information.

How to Use

  1. Insert a compatible SIM card into the shield.
  2. Attach the required cellular and GNSS antennas.
  3. Mount the shield on a compatible Arduino controller.
  4. Connect an appropriate 5V power source. DFRobot notes that an external power supply is required for proper module operation in its setup procedure.
  5. Press the module's Boot/power control as required to start the cellular modem.
  6. Allow the module time to register with the cellular network.
  7. Select the appropriate serial connection using the available jumper configuration. DFRobot documents D0/D1 and D7/D8 serial options for Arduino setups.
  8. Communicate with the modem using AT commands.
  9. Configure SMS, calls, TCP/IP, MQTT, HTTP, or other required functions.
  10. For GNSS, enable positioning through the appropriate AT command and place the GNSS antenna where it has a clear view of the sky.

Important Notes

  • Actual LTE/3G/2G connectivity depends on local carrier support, SIM service, network coverage, and supported frequency bands.
  • LTE CAT4 speed ratings are theoretical maximums; real-world speed varies with network conditions, signal quality, carrier configuration, and network load.
  • Use an appropriate external power source as recommended for the shield. Cellular transmission can require substantially more power than normal idle operation.
  • Connect the appropriate cellular antenna and GNSS antenna before using their respective radio functions.
  • GNSS positioning generally performs best outdoors or where the antenna has a clear view of the sky.
  • Some Arduino pins are occupied by the shield. DFRobot specifically notes D0, D1, and D12 usage on this board, so check pin allocation before connecting other peripherals.
  • The shield includes a module power-control function, so follow the documented startup and shutdown procedure rather than abruptly removing power during active communication.
  • Arduino serial communication may require the correct jumper configuration for the selected UART pins.
  • A SIM card and appropriate cellular data/voice service are required but are not included.
  • Please allow approximately 5% measuring deviation for manual measurements.
  • Product images are for illustration only; connector, component, and PCB details may vary slightly between production revisions.
