Magnetic Sensor Door/Window - Reed Switch Security Sensor

The Magnetic Door/Window Reed Switch Sensor is a compact sensor for monitoring the open or closed status of doors, windows, cabinets, lockers, gates, and similar access points. It consists of a reed switch and a matching magnet that work together to detect changes in position.

When the magnet is away from the reed switch, the normally open circuit remains open. When the magnet approaches the switch, the reed switch closes the circuit. This simple switching action makes the sensor easy to interface with digital inputs on Arduino boards and other microcontrollers.

The included approximately 35 cm cable provides flexibility during installation, while the compact switch and magnet housings allow the sensor to be used in space-constrained applications.

How It Works

The sensor operates using a magnetic reed switch. The reed switch contains magnetic contacts that respond when the included magnet is brought close to it.

In its normal state, the switch is open. When the magnet approaches the reed switch, the contacts close and allow the connected circuit to detect the change in state. A microcontroller such as Arduino can monitor this change through a digital input, typically using a pull-up resistor.

• Detection performance depends on the relative position and distance between the reed switch and magnet.
