Technical Details
The MCP2515 CAN Bus Module TJA1050 Receiver SPI Module is designed to provide CAN communication capability to microcontrollers through an SPI interface. It integrates two important components: the MCP2515 CAN controller and the TJA1050 CAN transceiver.
The MCP2515 handles CAN protocol functions and communicates with the host microcontroller through SPI. The TJA1050 then provides the physical interface to the two-wire CAN bus through the CANH and CANL lines.
This architecture makes the module particularly useful with microcontrollers such as Arduino boards and other development platforms that provide SPI but do not include an onboard CAN controller.

Important Notes
The MCP2515 is a CAN controller, while the TJA1050 is the physical-layer CAN transceiver. Together they provide a complete controller-to-CAN-bus interface.
The exact oscillator frequency and module pinout can vary between MCP2515 breakout-board versions. Many commonly sold versions use an 8MHz crystal, so verify the oscillator fitted to the specific board when configuring software libraries.
For a properly terminated CAN network, 120Ω termination resistors are normally placed at the two physical ends of the bus. Avoid treating every node as an endpoint unless the network topology specifically requires it.
Logic-level compatibility should also be checked when connecting the module to 3.3V microcontrollers, as many TJA1050-based boards are designed around a 5V supply and logic environment.
