How It Works

The MIFARE Classic 1K card communicates wirelessly with a compatible 13.56MHz RFID/NFC reader. The reader generates the electromagnetic field that supplies the energy required by the card, so no internal battery is required.

When the card enters the reader's operating field, the reader and card exchange data using the supported contactless communication protocol. The card's EEPROM stores application data, while sector-specific keys can be used to control access to protected memory areas.

For NFC smartphone applications, compatibility depends on the phone's NFC hardware, software, and the type of data being written or read. Supported NFC applications can be used to write compatible information such as a URL to the card.
