Technical Details
The ACS712 Current Sensor Module provides an easy way to measure electrical current in microcontroller-based systems. The ACS712 is a fully integrated Hall-effect linear current sensor designed to provide an output voltage proportional to the AC or DC current passing through its internal copper conduction path.
The sensor operates from a 5V supply and provides a ratiometric analog output. Different ACS712 variants are available for different current ranges. The original device family includes ±5A, ±20A, and ±30A versions, with sensitivity decreasing as the measurement range increases.
Features
- Based on the ACS712 Hall-effect current sensor
- Measures both AC and DC current
- Analog voltage output proportional to measured current
- 5V single-supply operation
- Low-resistance internal current conductor
- Electrical isolation between current path and signal circuitry
- Available in different current ranges
- Suitable for microcontroller analog inputs
- Useful for motor and load monitoring applications
Applications
- Arduino current measurement projects
- DC motor current monitoring
- Power supply monitoring
- Load detection
- Battery-powered project monitoring
- Robotics and automation projects
- AC/DC current measurement experiments
- Overcurrent detection prototypes
- Embedded power-management projects
Important Note
The exact current range and sensitivity depend on the ACS712 variant used on the module. Verify the marking on the module before designing measurement software around a particular sensitivity.
For accurate measurements, PCB/module layout, temperature, electrical noise, filtering, and ADC characteristics should be taken into account.
