Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor v1.2 with Analog Output
VAT inclusive; Computed calculations added locally.
Overview
The Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor v1.2 is designed to monitor soil moisture using capacitive sensing rather than exposed resistive probes. This approach helps reduce the electrode corrosion commonly associated with traditional resistive soil moisture sensors, making it suitable for repeated use in plant monitoring and irrigation projects.
The sensor operates from 3.3V to 5.5V DC and provides an analog output that can be read by compatible microcontrollers such as Arduino and ESP32. Its low operating current of approximately 5mA also makes it suitable for battery-powered monitoring systems.
The output is moisture-dependent and should be calibrated for the specific soil, plant pot, and installation conditions. The supplied specifications indicate an inverted output response, so software can be configured to translate the analog reading into a useful moisture level for applications such as automatic watering.

Product Technical Information
Technical Details
The Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor v1.2 provides an easy way to add soil moisture monitoring to Arduino, ESP32, and other microcontroller-based projects. Instead of relying on direct electrical conduction between exposed metal electrodes, it uses capacitive sensing to detect changes associated with soil moisture.
Its corrosion-resistant probe design is useful for applications where the sensor will be repeatedly installed in moist soil. The compact probe can be placed into plant pots, garden soil, or experimental growing environments while the electronics section should remain protected from water exposure.

Important Notes
The sensor provides an analog output, so the moisture level should be calibrated according to the actual soil type and application. Different soil composition, density, temperature, probe depth, and placement can affect the measured value.
The supplied specifications describe an inverted moisture response, meaning the output voltage generally decreases as moisture increases. Actual readings should be experimentally calibrated rather than treated as a universal percentage scale.
The electronics and connector area should be kept dry. Only the intended sensing portion should be inserted into soil. Avoid forcing the probe into hard or rocky soil, as excessive mechanical force may damage the PCB.
For Raspberry Pi projects, an external ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) is required because standard Raspberry Pi GPIO pins do not directly measure analog voltage.
