Overview

The US-016 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor provides a simple way to measure object distance without physical contact. It sends ultrasonic signals toward an object and determines the distance from the returning echo, then represents the measured distance as an analog voltage output.

The module supports a specified measurement range of 2cm to 300cm, with approximately 1mm resolution and stated accuracy of ±0.3cm + 1%. Its analog output is proportional to distance, allowing the sensor to connect directly to an analog input or suitable data-acquisition system.

The US-016 operates from 5V DC and draws approximately 3.8mA, making it suitable for low-power embedded projects. Its sensing angle is specified at less than 15°, which provides a relatively focused detection area for robotics and automation applications.

Product Technical Information

Technical Details

The US-016 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor is designed for non-contact distance measurement using ultrasonic waves. It is especially useful when a project requires an analog distance signal instead of the trigger/echo interface commonly found on basic ultrasonic modules.

The sensor continuously measures the distance to a suitable target and provides a voltage output proportional to the measured distance. The module can be configured for different maximum ranges; commonly, the range can be selected around 1m or 3m using the Range input. For the 3m setting, the output approaches the supply voltage at the maximum range.

Features

  • US-016 ultrasonic distance sensor
  • Non-contact distance measurement
  • 2cm–300cm specified detection range
  • Analog voltage output
  • 0–VCC output range
  • Approximately 1mm resolution
  • ±0.3cm + 1% specified accuracy
  • Less than 15° sensing angle
  • 5V DC operation
  • Approx. 3.8mA operating current
  • Compact design
  • Suitable for Arduino and other microcontroller systems

  • Tank and level monitoring projects
  • Parking or proximity systems
  • Smart devices
  • Educational electronics
  • DIY sensor projects

How It Works

The sensor emits an ultrasonic signal toward the target object. When the sound wave encounters the object, part of the signal is reflected back to the sensor.

The module processes this reflected signal and converts the measured distance into an analog voltage output. The output voltage changes proportionally with the selected measurement range and detected distance

How to Use

  1. Connect VCC to a suitable 5V DC supply.
  2. Connect GND to the controller ground.
  3. Connect the OUT pin to a compatible analog input.
  4. Configure the Range input according to the required measurement range.
  5. Read the analog voltage using the controller's ADC.
  6. Convert the measured voltage into distance according to the selected range and sensor characteristics.

Important Notes

  • This US-016 provides analog voltage output, not the standard HC-SR04-style Trig/Echo interface.
  • The stated maximum range is 300cm when configured for the 3m range.
  • The Range input can select between approximately 1m and 3m measurement ranges on supported versions
  • Use a stable power supply and connect the sensor ground to the controller ground.
  • Ultrasonic measurements can be affected by object shape, surface material, angle, temperature, and environmental conditions.
  • Soft, angled, or irregular surfaces may produce weaker or inconsistent echoes.
  • Keep the ultrasonic transducers unobstructed during operation.
  • Do not treat the stated resolution as guaranteed absolute measurement accuracy.
  • The sensor is intended for electronics and automation projects and is not a certified safety or precision metrology device.
  • 4 Days General Warranty applies according to the supplied product terms.

  • Package Includes

    • 1 × US-016 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor Module
