Overview

Monitor water clarity with this 5V Water Turbidity Sensor Module, designed for electronics projects that need to detect suspended particles and changes in water turbidity. The sensor works by detecting changes in light transmission/scattering through the water sample, allowing a connected microcontroller to monitor changes in water clarity.

The module provides both analog and digital signal outputs. The analog output can be read by a microcontroller's analog input for continuous monitoring, while the digital output can be used as a threshold-based detection signal. The onboard trimpot allows the digital switching sensitivity/threshold to be adjusted.

With a 5V DC operating voltage and compatibility with popular controller platforms, this sensor is useful for DIY water monitoring, environmental projects, laboratory experiments, liquid clarity detection, and educational electronics applications.

Product Technical Information

Technical Details

The Water Turbidity Sensor Module is a practical sensor for detecting changes in water clarity caused by suspended particles. It uses an optical sensing arrangement to detect changes in light transmission and scattering through the water sample. As the optical characteristics of the water change, the sensor produces a corresponding electrical signal.

The module supports both analog and digital outputs. The analog signal is useful when you want to monitor changing sensor values with an ADC, while the digital output can be used for simple threshold-based detection. An onboard trimpot allows the digital switching threshold to be adjusted according to the project requirements.

Features

  • 5V DC operating voltage
  • Maximum current consumption of approximately 30mA
  • Analog output for continuous sensor readings
  • Digital output for threshold-based detection
  • Adjustable digital sensitivity using onboard trimpot
  • Optical water turbidity detection
  • Compatible with Arduino and other microcontroller platforms
  • Suitable for water clarity monitoring
  • Operating temperature range of -30°C to 80°C
  • Useful for DIY, educational and laboratory projects

Applications

  • Water turbidity monitoring
  • Water clarity detection
  • Arduino water quality projects
  • Raspberry Pi sensor projects
  • River and stream monitoring
  • Lake and tank monitoring
  • Water storage and collection systems
  • Laboratory experiments
  • Environmental research projects
  • Liquid monitoring and automation
  • Educational water-sensing projects

How to Use

  1. Connect the module to a regulated 5V DC supply.
  2. Connect GND to the controller ground.
  3. Connect the analog output to an analog input when continuous readings are required.
  4. Use the digital output when a simple HIGH/LOW turbidity threshold is required.
  5. Adjust the onboard trimpot to set the desired digital switching threshold.
  6. Place the sensing portion into the water sample according to the sensor's design.
  7. Read and process the sensor output using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or another compatible controller.

For accurate quantitative turbidity measurements, calibration against known reference standards is recommended rather than treating the raw analog voltage as a universal NTU value.

Important Notes

  • Use 5V DC as the specified operating supply.
  • Do not exceed the sensor's rated supply voltage.
  • Keep the electronic portion of the sensor protected from water.
  • Water turbidity readings can be affected by bubbles, ambient light, sample conditions, and sensor positioning.
  • The digital output threshold is adjustable; changing the trimpot changes the switching point.
  • Analog output should be calibrated if the project requires quantitative turbidity measurements.
  • This module is intended for sensing and monitoring applications and should not be treated as a laboratory-grade water quality analyzer without appropriate calibration.
  • Do not assume that turbidity measurement alone determines whether water is safe for drinking.
